Why Padel Is So Popular

Padel blends fitness, strategy, and fun in a way that few sports do. It’s social, fast-paced, and welcoming—whether you’re playing casually or competitively.

What what actually is Padel? Padel is a fast-growing racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. It’s played in doubles, on an enclosed court with glass and mesh walls that are part of the game. The result? Longer rallies, more strategy, and a very social playing experience.

Basic Rules of Padel

Court & Equipment

  • Played on a 20m x 10m enclosed court
  • Solid padel racket (no strings)
  • Low-compression padel balls (similar to tennis)

Scoring

  • Same scoring system as tennis: 15–30–40–game
  • Matches usually played best of 3 sets
  • Golden Point often used at deuce (first point wins)

Serve Rules

  • Serve is underarm only
  • Ball must bounce behind the service line
  • Serve must land diagonally in the opponent’s service box
  • Ball must bounce once before hitting the glass wall (not the fence)

Gameplay Rules

  • Ball must bounce once on your side before hitting the walls
  • You can hit the ball off your own walls
  • Volleys are allowed (except on the serve return)
  • Ball can hit any wall after bouncing and remain in play
  • Ball is out if it hits the fence directly without bouncing

Doubles Play

  • Always played 2 vs 2
  • Communication and positioning are key
  • Players alternate shots, like in doubles tennis
